How to Prepare the Family for the New Baby

Whether it is your first time expecting, or you have already been through it a couple of times, pregnancy is both exciting and overwhelming. From the anticipation of whether your baby will look more like the mother or father, to the seemingly insurmountable planning that goes into place prior to baby coming, pregnancy can be a busy time for the entire family. However, taking some time to plan and prepare for a newborn is a fantastic way to keep things organized and help stay in control.

If You Have Children, Talk to Them about Baby

If you have children, particularly younger children, talk to them about how they will have a new baby brother or sister soon. This will help them get a little more excited about it, and turn it into a positive thing. Everyone has new roles and the job of the older brother or sister is crucial. The more you keep your children involved in the pregnancy, the less likely there will be jealous reactions to the new baby.

Create a Pregnancy Calendar

Create a pregnancy week by week calendar to keep track of yours and baby’s journey through the weeks leading up to birth. This not only keeps everyone in tune with what is going on, but is also a treasured and nostalgic piece to look back upon years later.

Pregnancy is something that affects everyone within the family. As a result of this, it is good to get everyone involved in the preparations to make the entire experience as positive and family oriented as possible.

Best Gifts for Daughters

The relationship between parents and their children is more complicated than ever in the Technological Age. Most children have a presence online before they can even speak, but one of the best ways for parents or grandparents to develop a relationship with their children can be through a shared activity, such as getting accessories for a cherished doll.

The best traditions are those that can be passed down from one generation to the next, and few gifts capture what it means to grow up in the United States better than the American Girl dolls.  These dolls might not have been around for generations, but the dolls depict different eras in American history. For example, Addy Walker depicts a girl who lived during the aftermath of the Civil War.

This might be the perfect doll for a child who is learning about her family’s past in the South.

The series has other ways for your daughter to share a special connection with the toys. Why not personalize the doll to match your daughter’s hair and eye color? You can buy your daughter outfits to match the doll clothes. You can personalize the doll’s outfit to match your daughter’s fashion, or you can buy specialty outfits for your daughter to match the era of the doll. You can even buy your daughter shoes that match her dolls.

Even though parenting might be tougher than ever due to the number of dissenting voices that children grow up with, parents can still connect to their daughters through traditional gifts such as American Girl dolls.

Buying or Selling with a Social Consicience

LA CONCIENCIA

There is a debate traveling across the Internet about should we be marketing or buying with a social conscience. Notice the phrase social conscience applies to both views. There is no running away from social conscience.

Social conscience means a person cares about what is going on in the world locally and globally.Whether we like it or not our choices in marketing or in buying effects everyone on the planet. There are emotions attached to it.

The Internet gives us unprecedented access to information about the markets. We can find out where products are made and by whom. We can find out if it was done by fair labor or not so fair labor. It is possible now to make choices about buying an import not just on the price of a product, but whether or not it was made in a fashion that supports human rights. If your country’s philosophy and laws protect its own citizens from exploitation why would you buy another nations imports that you know were made by child or nearly slave labor?

On the flip side if a country’s businesses are marketing with a social conscience is that a good idea? It would most likely start out with good intent, but it is very likely a road which leads to hell. We will not be able to resist the temptation of taking control and forcing everyone into a particular mold or mindset. This is in exact opposition to what Internet business is about.

These are ideas and questions we as a global community are going to have to wrestle with and find a balance.

Cleaning Up Your Finances

Want to become more responsible with your money? In order to become the financial success story you dream of, you have to master three things: controlling your spending, paying your bills on time and building your credit. Here is how you can clean up your finances.

Nothing sounds quite so horrible as “controlling your spending,” but the habit is easier to get into if you take steps to limit your spending. What is the best way to ensure you are not overspending? Only spend what you already have. This means cutting up credit cards and putting your money on a vision prepaid card. It is just as safe and easy (and inexpensive!) as a credit card but doesn’t let you get yourself into debt.

Not only does your prepaid card keep you from spending more than you have, but it also helps you keep track of how much you have spent with text message alerts that let you know how much you have left in your account after a purchase. That means you will never find yourself at the grocery store without enough money to pay for dinner that night.

As for paying bills on time, which is one of the best ways to raise your credit score, you can use your prepaid card for one-time or monthly automated payments. Not only will you eliminate envelopes and stamps altogether, but the company reports your timely payments, giving you a better credit score.

A prepaid card helps you hit three birds with one stone. You create better spending habits, pay your bills on time and get yourself the credit score you want.

You Die With Money, You Die Disgraced

There’s nothing wrong with money, mind you. The reality is that little green piece of paper can change lives in a blink of an eye. Think of the upper class, for crying out loud. There’s so many dollars raked in, and many of them don’t need to work a single minute of their days. Life can get pretty easy. A person can take a taxi all around town and never blink or worry about whether or not the wallet dries up. You can hire a personal bodyguard just for the heck of it and even provide that bodyguard a place to live. It’s the limelight, the luxury!

Just know, though, that it can shut you out of the real world real easy. Most, though, are smart enough to keep their eyes open. The beautiful thing about money is that it can truly help people out there. Think of non-profits, even the needy. One single dollar to a homeless person means a million bucks to your god(s), whatever your god(s) may be. Why? Because you helped someone out!

It’s that simple. Most people in the upper class end up bored, tired, or depressed because they simply don’t know what to do with all that money. It becomes almost pointless. There’s no struggle in life. There’s no getting up on your feet. That simple act of trying to rise up is part of the power of humanity! How do you get to that if it means so much to mankind? Seriously…. It really is that simple.

Simply give your money. Help someone in need. Why do you have that money if it’s not being used?

It’s Never too Early to Teach Your Child about Taxes

What’s that saying about how the two things that are sure in life are death and taxes? Taxes are a fact of life whether you consider yourself upper class, middle class, or lower class. No matter what your lifestyle, taxes are a part of it. It is never too early to start teaching children the basics of taxes.

The first shocking reality of taxes known to children is usually sales tax. A child sees a pack of gum for sale that is $1.50 and is shocked when the transaction totals $1.69. This is typically the first lesson of taxation.

When teaching a child about income tax you can use an allowance as an example. It’s easy to figure out what amount of taxes would be withheld even if the amount is small. The sooner your children are educated about income tax, the less of a shock it will be when they get that first paycheck and it’s smaller than they calculated. It is helpful to explain why we pay taxes, such as road repairs, maintenance and public servants.

Parents can help ease the reality of taxes by explaining there is free tax filing available and very easy software which can be used to calculate taxes. There is not a need to go to an expensive accountant to do family taxes or even small business taxes.

Taxes are a fact of life and it is never too early to start educating a child in the facts of the “real world.” Taxes are a great place to start that education!

Finding Your Child’s Superhero

While you might view your child as your own personal superhero—parents can be funny like that—you’ve got to remember that in their minds, superheroes wear a certain, identifiable costume. And they want to be superheroes. Not only yours, but also the ones that grab their attention from watching movies and television, and reading comic books. There’s no better way to help your children bring their superhero fantasies to life than to get them outfitted with a cool costume.

There are a multitude of places to find the most popular costumes. Whether it’s Batman, Harry Potter, Iron Man, a Power Ranger, or the ever popular Spider-Man that keeps your kid up at night, you can find the right costume with relative ease. Party supply stores stock these outfits year round. You need not worry about the limited availability that certain stores, such as Halloween-only retailers, offer. There’s online availability for finding just the right kids costumes in just the right sizes. Even arts and crafts stores carry costumes throughout the year. This makes for easy pickings since any additionally required accessories are available right in the store. Need a scarf or a broom to complement that witch or wizard outfit? You can typically find the supplies to create just the right look a few shelves down from the costumes.

If you’re concerned about availability, particularly if your child’s party is coming up faster than you expected, get shopping online. Kid’s costumes are there to be found, just like your child’s inner superhero. Get shopping today and hand them a present in a few days that will blow their socks off!

Communicating With Your Child

As kids get older, they can seem like they are harder to reach. Sometimes a parent-child relationship can get strained because the parent expects too much from the child, or the parent tries too hard to be important in the child’s life. What that parent is missing is that she already is important in the child’s life, she just needs to understand the different ways of reaching a child and establishing a strong parent-child relationship.

1) Privacy

One of the “fine lines” in a parent-child relationship is the need to give the child privacy. You need to give your child his space, but you also need to monitor your child’s behavior if he starts acting unusual. Simple acts such as knocking before entering the child’s room and allowing the child to lock the door from time to time can be the first steps to establishing trust between you and your child.

2) Responsibility

Children need to understand responsibility at a young age in order to develop respect for it as they get older. Make children understand that doing homework is a serious responsibility, and reinforce that by being available to help your child do homework every night. Allow your child to see you paying bills and running the house to help the child understand the importance of responsibility.

3) Talking

Children do not always come out and tell parents when something is bothering them. Developing healthy communication between you and your child starts when the child is very young. The parent needs to take every issue the child has very seriously in order for children to feel as though they can talk to their parents. Remember, the issue is important to the child. Parents need to show genuine interest in their children’s issues when the children are younger in order to establish healthy communication for the rest of the relationship.

Communicating with your child is not a puzzle or a game. It is a process that takes years to establish. Once you have established a good rapport with your child, you are on your way to creating an overall healthy relationship.

The Internet Is Bringing People Together

Interpersonal networking and the development of the Internet is helping to close the social gaps between lower, middle and upper class people all over the world. While some people complain that the anonymous nature of the Internet has created a whole new kind of predator, the Internet has done just as much to bring more people together than any other medium in history.

1) Social Networking Pages

The best part about social networking pages on the Internet is that they are free and, in some cases, you can make them look however you want. If you have expensive tastes but do not have the budget to surround yourself with the things you want, you can still associate your Internet persona with the things that you enjoy. Just because you cannot afford a large gold chain for your neck does not mean that your Internet profile cannot have some flash to it.

2) Anonymous Factor

There are two sides to every story, and there are two sides to the anonymous factor on the Internet. When you meet someone on the Internet, you are unable to make any judgment about that person. There may be pictures on her social networking profile, but you have no way of knowing what kind of person you are really dealing with. You are left to discover someone through the mask of the Internet, and that can help you to get to know people that you may have never met without computer networking.

3) Dating

Internet dating has come a very long way since the early 1990’s. Not everyone enjoys spending time in a night club or does not have the financial resources to go out every weekend. The Internet allows people that could be a perfect relationship match to meet. Those two people may have never met without the Internet, but the ability to network without having to spend money on gas, a cover charge and drinks helps to bring more people together than every before.

For all of its pitfalls, the Internet offers much in the way of enhancing interpersonal relationships and bringing people together. As the stigma of Internet contact begins to wear off, people are starting to meet others from all over the world that they may not have had a chance to meet prior to the Internet.

Materialism Isn’t All That

Maybe it was the baby boomer’s feeling to rid themselves of the austerity that their Depression-era parents espoused. Or maybe it was the creation of cheap credit and credit cards. It could be that with the perfection of mass production after WWII gave us more goods to choose from. In any case, materialism rose its ugly head in the late 70s and life has never quite been the same.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting the finer things in life. Except the finer things used to be high quality, that much more rare, and had an intrinsic value. So for those who could afford it, they bought it. The rest stared in envy. Modern times has seen a change in the definition of the finer things in life. Now its come down to how much crap one person can buy. Quality and rarity has gone by the wayside in favor of being able to open a door and show off how much of a particular object one has. Why have one BMW when it is possible to buy two with a good credit rating and no income check? Go crazy instead of exercising prudence.

Here’s the thing: living well doesn’t need all of that junk. In fact, many people consider themselves living the good life when they eliminate a lot of excess. Being concerned with having all sorts of stuff to make others envy you is a shallow attitude. Learn to appreciate living a slimmed down lifestyle with a few extras. Having money in the bank is so much better than having junk in the garage.
